Alay sa Maestro

                                                                                                          CID REYES

"ALAY SA MAESTRO is, quite obviously, my Homage to the Masters: Filipinos, Europeans, and Japanese. The practice of paying tributes to the works of the Masters by recreating and reconfiguring their works, through the lens and style of another, has many precedents in history. Most renowned is Picasso’s reconstruction – in 45 versions! - of his fellow Spaniard Diego Velasquez’s “Las Meninas” or “Ladies-in-Waiting.”

Till present-day, contemporary artists occasionally re-work the art of masters they admire. The experience is best described as “standing on the shoulders of giants.”

My “Alay sa Maestro” works were conceived as geometric construction and span from pre-pandemic times (2019) to the present (2022).”
